How to use AI Assistant for Odoo, screen by screen.
Asking a question
AI Assistant > Ask
Type a question in plain language and press Ask.
Before you type, the wizard lists what I can look at - resolved for you, from your own access rights, right now. It is worth reading once: the commonest disappointment with an assistant like this is asking about something outside its scope and reading the refusal as stupidity.
Good questions look like:
- Which customers still owe us money, and how much in total?
- What stock do we have on hand, and where?
- Which invoices fell due before the end of last month?
What happens
The assistant does not know anything about your business until it asks. It chooses a tool, the tool runs as you, and the answer is written from what came back.
That means:
- Records you cannot see are absent, not marked. If your access does not include a company's invoices, they are not in the result and the assistant is not told they exist.
- Two people get different answers. That is correct behaviour.
- A truncated result says so. If the row limit was reached, the answer should tell you - and the transcript shows the limit.
Reading a conversation
AI Assistant > Conversations
Open one and you get two tabs.
Transcript shows the whole exchange: your question, the tools the model chose, the raw data that came back, and the answer. Every figure in an answer can be checked against the rows above it. This is the point of keeping the transcript rather than only the reply.
What it read shows each read: the model, the operation, how many records, and - if Access X-Ray is installed - the group that entitled you to them.
Follow-up questions
Open a conversation and ask again. A follow-up is answered with the owner's rights, not the reader's, so a manager opening somebody else's conversation and asking a follow-up gets that person's view of the data, not their own.
When it cannot answer
It will say so. Common reasons:
- The data is not exposed. An administrator has not listed that model.
- You cannot read it. The tool is never offered to you.
- The question is not about data. It reads records; it does not forecast, advise or calculate anything that is not in the database.
What it cannot do
It reads. There is no write, create, delete or method call in the tool layer, and no setting that adds one. It cannot post an invoice, change a price, or send an email.
